Air Spring Service:
- Remove top cap with cassette tool or socket
- Slide out air shaft, wipe clean, inspect shaft and seals
- Replace main piston o-ring and sealhead o-ring if worn
- Regrease (a little bit a grease) piston and shaft seals with Slickoleum
- Don't put a ton of grease on the air piston
ā ļø Warnings:
- Clamp only on square flats, never on round shaft or damper body
- The mid-valve nut is made of plastic, be carefull with it
- Always depressurize air and damper before opening
- Do not overfill damper it will just spray everywhere when you insert the compression assembly
- Clamp only on square flats, never on round shaft or damper body
- The mid-valve nut is made of plastic, be carefull with it
- Always depressurize air and damper before opening
- Do not overfill damper it will just spray everywhere when you insert the compression assembly
Ā Pro Tips
- The damper can be rebuilt without clamps if you're careful, just use soft jaws and only clamp on square areas
- Change IFP o-ring, thread seal, and base valve o-ring, donāt open the shim stacks unless you're revalving which won't be necessary on that damper unless you're a Pro or weight 80 pounds.
- Fox 38 NA2 air shaft is a bit different, you have no choice but to unscrew the airshaft's nut on the tip to push out of air piston from the assembly to remove factory grease under the piston.
- Fox 40 needs a SPA-1 Pin wrench to unscrew the air piston.
- Never insert the damper shaft fully after the bleed is done, always leave 2-3cm from the top when stroking or the damper will not have enough oil inside.
- Grease the Dust Wiper Seals insides and the lower leg bushings generously with SRAM Butter.
Disclaimer: This kit is for home mechanics only. Read all manuals before use. Donāt clamp directly on round or anodized sections. See Terms of Service.
