Universal Steerer Tube Dummy
Pulling your fork should not turn your bike into a pile of headset parts. The Universal Steerer Tube Dummy replaces your fork’s steerer so your headset stack stays exactly where it belongs: bearings seated, spacers aligned, stem in place. No loose hardware, no “where did that spacer go”, no caliper hanging by the hose. It is the cleanest way to store a bike for the winter or keep everything together during service.
Why this is worth it
- No headset chaos: keeps the full headset stack together so nothing drops, shifts, or gets mixed up.
- Faster reassembly: your spacer order stays locked in, so reinstalling the fork is quick and predictable.
- Winter storage ready: store the bike for months without losing tiny parts or forgetting how it was set up.
- Cleaner workspace: no fork in the way while you work on the frame, routing, bearings, or cockpit.
Compatibility
Universal fit: Designed for standard 1-1/8" (28.6 mm) steerers, works with both straight and tapered forks.
Not compatible: oversized “Overdrive” steerers found on some older Giant bikes.
Standard length: 220 mm (covers the huge majority of bikes).
Key Features
- Full-length support: long body keeps the entire spacer + stem stack stable during storage or service.
- Spacer-friendly shape: slightly non-round profile makes spacers easier to slide off without fighting them.
- Loose-fit tolerance: slides in easily, still holds the stack securely once clamped.
- Top clamp system: quick clamp + screw locks the stack in place and prevents rotation or creeping.
- Caliper storage: dedicated threaded holes let you bolt your brake caliper safely during service.
- Built for repeated use: strong polymer body designed for long-term storage and repeated installs.
Threads & Hardware Details
The critical threads are metal so you get reliable preload and long-term durability.
Top cap bolt interface: threads cleanly into a metal insert for consistent headset preload without stripping over time.
Caliper bolt storage: proper metal threading for bolting your caliper securely (no chewed-up threads from repeated use).
Winter Storage & Long-Term Use
If you store a bike for the winter with the fork removed, this prevents the classic problems: spacers disappearing, and reassembly turning into a guessing game.
Leave the cockpit assembled, keep everything aligned, and when spring comes you reinstall your fork with the same spacer stack and the same feel.
