Rear Shock SAG Tool - For Precise Setup on Air Shocks
Measure rear shock sag accurately and scratch-free. Designed for all brands of air shocks: Fox, Ćhlins, Cane Creek, Push, EXT, DVO, etc. Not needed for RockShox shocks as they have built-in sag gradients.
ā ļø For coil shocks, use our Finger Caliper and our SAG Clips. Itās designed with slim arms to slip between coils without scratching or struggling. Rotate the coil slightly to align your measurement area, then capture it on both sides with the caliper arms.
Why This Tool Exists
- Calipers and metal tools can easily scratch Kashima or coated shafts, this tool avoids all that.
- Pre-marked sag lines in 2.5% increments, no math, no guess.
- Take it with you on the trail to make live changes and check sag at any time.
- Compatible with metric and imperial shocks, just convert your stroke length from inches to mm (multiply inches by 25.4).
- exemple: 2.25 inches is around 57mm so use 57.5mm
Versions Available
- Short Stroke (50ā57.5 mm): Great for short travel trail bikes. Sag range: 12.5%ā30%
- Medium Stroke (57.5ā65 mm): Best choice for enduro bikes. Sag range: 12.5%ā35%
- Long Stroke (65.5ā75 mm): For DH and freeride setups. Sag range: 12.5%ā40%

Tips for Measuring
- Always measure from the bottom of the sag ring, not the middle or top. Small mistakes matter, especially on short travel bikes.
- Use the same riding gear when measuring sag as you use while riding.
- Break stiction by compressing the bike slightly, then let it return to neutral before reading sag.
Air vs Coil: Things to Know
Never use preload on coil shocks to reach your target sag, it kills small bump sensitivity and defeats the point of having a coil spring. If your sag is off, change the spring rate instead. One time, I saw a guy with a 100lb/in lighter spring than he should have and got so much preload on it that it felt almost like a hard tail bike....Ā
Need help picking a spring? Try these:
- Coil Spring Rate Calculator:Ā full setup based on your frameās leverage ratio and stroke
- Air-to-Coil Converter:Ā experimental, based on your air pressure and sag measurement
Want to check your actual wheel sag?
Most bikes have leverage ratios that make the wheel sag around 4ā5% more than the shock sag. Use our Wheel Sag Calculator to find out.

Final Notes
- Stronger Plastic is very strong but not bio, can be in your car, in water, anywhere.
- 99%+ bio-based (Corn) polymer for that tool PLA version
- PLA is not as heat-resistant or tough as other plastics, donāt leave it in your car on a hot day
-
Donāt step on it. Itās precise and functional, but not indestructible
Disclaimer: Always double-check sag values against manufacturer guidelines. This tool gives fast visual feedback but should be combined with ride feel and tuning for best results.
