RockShox Vivid Air (2024+) Full DIY Rebuild Toolkit
β οΈ Safety Disclaimer
WARNING: This is a pressurized air shock. You must release both air spring and damper pressure fully before disassembly. Do not attempt to remove the sealhead or open the damper without full depressurization.
Youβll need a valve core remover and a shock pump with an IFP air valve adapter. These are listed in our Essential Tools Starter Pack.
β οΈ RockShox Sealhead Torque Warning
RockShox recommends torquing their shock sealheads to ~30β34 Nm, but thatβs arguably way too high.
Fox only uses 16 Nm on their sealheads and they work perfectly. Why? Because:
- The O-ring does all the sealing
- The fine threads generate massive force with very little rotation
- Overtorquing risks stripping threads, cracking parts, or ruining your tool
In this video at 13:50, even the pro doesnβt torque to 34 Nm, because youβd need over 50 pounds (22+ kg) of force on the wrench tip. Thatβs excessive.
We suggest staying around 20β25 Nm. Thatβs already more than Fox uses and more than enough to fully seal a fine-pitch thread with an O-ring.
Use our Torque Calculator to figure out the right pressure for your wrench length, there is a preset for the wrench.
Overtightening isnβt better. Itβs just more likely to break something.
Β Quick Overview
The 2024+ Vivid Air is RockShoxβs answer to the Float X2 (just popular because it's gold!), but with a larger negative air chamber, improved linearity, and adjustable Hydraulic Bottom-Out (HBO). It's a serious enduro/DH shock thatβs more reliable but harder to service.
Unlike Fox, the air can is easy to remove with basic tools. The negative sealhead comes off with a 10" Knipex that opens to at least 46 mm or more. You'll need a few specialty tools for the damper service, everything is included in our kit.
NOTE: You must remove the rebound adjuster knob before servicing. This is covered in detail on page 44 of the official SRAM manual.
Β What's Included
- Sealhead Negative Spring Compression Tool : clips perfectly with the 6-pin wrench
- 6-Pin Sealhead Wrench : spacer included for full 6-pin engagement
- M5 IFP Puller
-
1/2" Shaft Clamp
- IFP Depth Tool
Β Knipex Adapter Included
Need to rebuild a 2023+ RockShox Super Deluxe Coil or the new 2025+ Vivid Coil?
Weβve added a custom 3D-printed adapter that clips onto the negative spring compression tool and lets you use Knipex 10" pliers instead. Works best with the jaws almost parallel.
Included free with every tool, no need to buy anything else. Just make sure you have Knipex 10' soft jawed wrench, these don't use the 6-pin wrench!
Β Required Extras (Not included in the toolkit)
- Trunnion Shock Vise Holder / Torque Tool : required if your shock is trunnion-mounted
- RockShox IFP Air Fill Adapter : required to recharge the damper
-
Valve Core Remover & Other Essentials
- Without this, you can't release the air in the damper.
- An Aftermarket Seal kit is always a good option, it's mostly even better than the real kits. Here is Anso's Vivid Air 2024+ Seal kit
- 10" Knipex Pliers : opens wide enough for the negative sealhead. Honestly the best single tool for home MTB mechanics.
RockShox's official toolset includes a huge wrench that works, but itβs expensive. If you donβt already own it, the Knipex is more versatile and works for Vivid Coil, DHX2, etc.
