RockShox Vivid 6-Pin Custom Wrench – Product Manual
Working on damper internals is dangerous. RockShox dampers, including all Vivid models, use high-pressure IFP chambers that can cause serious injury if opened while pressurized.
- Always release both the air spring pressure (air shock) and the damper IFP pressure before disassembly
- Consult official RockShox service PDFs, they’re well-made and can even be printed for reference
- Do not attempt this work unless you are confident in your tools, technique, and understanding of damper internals
What This Tool Does
This custom 6-pin wrench is used to safely and securely open the sealhead on all RockShox Vivid shocks, including both Vivid Coil (2008–2024) and Vivid Air models, and Super Deluxe Coil from 2018 to 2022.
- Designed for high-torque use, up to around 30 Nm (torque for sealhead)
- Features 5 primary pins + 1 extra pin built into the spacer, full 6-pin engagement
- Deep-lip spacer ensures complete engagement and prevents tool flex
- The tool’s tight tolerances and steel pins construction make it strong enough for home mechanic use

Torque & Scale Use
This tool includes a built-in hole at exactly 14 cm from the center for use with a luggage scale and our Torque Calculator.
⚠️ RockShox Sealhead Torque Warning
RockShox recommends torquing their shock sealheads to ~30–34 Nm, but that’s arguably way too high.
Fox only uses 16 Nm on their sealheads and they work perfectly. Why? Because:
- The O-ring does all the sealing
- The fine threads generate massive force with very little rotation
- Overtorquing risks stripping threads, cracking parts, or ruining your tool
In this video at 13:50, even the pro doesn’t torque to 34 Nm, because you’d need over 50 pounds (22+ kg) of force on the wrench tip. That’s excessive.
We suggest staying around 20–25 Nm. That’s already more than Fox uses and more than enough to fully seal a fine-pitch thread with an O-ring.

Overtightening isn’t better. It’s just more likely to break something.

- Vivid Air (all years) : spacer lip accommodates taller top face
- Super Deluxe Coil 2018–2022 (2023+ does not need this tool)
Compression Tool Pairing
The top face is perfectly flat and built for integration with our Negative Spring Compression Tool. It fits into the compression fixture with zero play, making setup effortless and repeatable.
We use a snap-fit clip design, no screws or bolts. Just clip and torque.
Installation Tips
- Slide up the sag ring before installing the wrench
- Do not use impact tools, steady hand torque only
- Clean the pins and sealhead slots before installation for a snug fit
