RockShox Super Deluxe Coil Gen 2 (2023+) Full DIY Rebuild Toolkit

Heads up: This generation doesn't need the classic Vivid 6-pin wrench, you can simply use a 10" Knipex pliers or a regular adjustable wrench. Exact wrench size is unconfirmed, but it works in most cases. This saves time and simplifies your setup.

⚠️ RockShox Sealhead Torque Warning

RockShox recommends torquing their shock sealheads to ~30–34 Nm, but that’s arguably way too high.

Fox only uses 16 Nm on their sealheads and they work perfectly. Why? Because:

  • The O-ring does all the sealing
  • The fine threads generate massive force with very little rotation
  • Overtorquing risks stripping threads, cracking parts, or ruining your tool

In this video at 20:15, even the pro doesn’t torque to 34 Nm, because you’d need over 50 pounds (22+ kg) of force on the wrench tip. That’s excessive.

We suggest staying around 20–25 Nm. That’s already more than Fox uses and more than enough to fully seal a fine-pitch thread with an O-ring.

Use our Torque Calculator to figure out the right pull for your wrench length.

Overtightening isn’t better. It’s just more likely to break something.

The piggyback and adjuster assembly is also modular, meaning you can upgrade to the Ultimate version later on.

 IFP Air Fill Adapter (Required)

To pressurize the damper side of any RockShox shock, you’ll need a RockShox IFP air valve adapter, this lets your shock pump connect to the internal reservoir.

It’s a small but essential tool for safe and proper rebuilds. If you don’t already have one, you can grab it here:

Do not forget to get yourself a schrader valve core tool!

Here is a good Aftermarket Seal kit that you can get from MTB Hydraulics, it's really cheap and updated.
This shock includes Hydraulic Bottom-Out (HBO), so stroke changes are more complex than older models. Full details are in the official RockShox service manual (pages 34–36).

 What's Included

 Knipex Adapter Included

We’ve added a custom 3D-printed adapter that clips onto the negative spring compression tool and lets you use Knipex 10" pliers instead. Works best with the jaws almost parallel.

Included free with every compression tool, no need to buy anything else. Just make sure you have Knipex!

 IFP Depth & Pressure Reference

  • Select R / Select+: 35 mm reservoir, 200 psi, Maxima Plush 7wt
  • Ultimate / Ultimate DH: 41 mm reservoir, 200 psi, Maxima Plush 7wt

Use the correct base IFP depth based on your reservoir diameter. If you're not using the compression tool and are instead relying on a syringe + bleed fitting, adjust your IFP depth using the formula below.

Adjusted IFP Depth = Base IFP Depth − [(6.35² × Shaft Lost) / (Reservoir Radius)²]

Example:
Base Depth = 35 mm
Shaft Lost = 10 mm
Reservoir Inner Diameter = 24 mm → Radius = 12 mm
Adjusted Depth ≈ 35 − [(6.35² × 10) / 12²] = 32.25 mm

Note: Only use this if you're bleeding through a bleed fitting (a standard M5 brake bleed fitting should work). If you're using a compression tool or doing a hand bleed, just use the base depth.

⚠️ Safety Disclaimer

WARNING: This is a pressurized system. Always release pressure from both the damper and the air can (if air shock) before disassembly. Failing to do so can result in serious injury. These kits are designed for experienced home mechanics.

Open all adjusters before bleeding. Never remove the eyelet or adjuster assembly unless necessary. Always follow official RockShox service procedures.

Use Maxima Plush 7wt, Motorex 7.5wt, or RockShox 7wt suspension oil.
