Torque Calculator

Measure Torque with a Luggage Scale

This is the easiest way to get reliable torque without a torque wrench. The full math and presets are on the calculator page.

How it works+
  1. Measure the distance from the center of the bolt/nut to the exact spot you pull.
  2. Hook the luggage scale at that spot and pull smoothly.
  3. Use the calculator to convert force + arm length into torque.

Always pull from the same point you measured. Small errors matter.

Why it’s worth using +
  • Cheap and surprisingly accurate
  • Works with any wrench length and tool
  • Easy to repeat and verify
  • Many luggage scales read very small increments (example: 0.01 kg / 0.1 lb)
Important note (low torques) +

For most suspension work you don’t need a torque wrench, but for very low torques like 4–12 Nm, torque control is strongly recommended to avoid damaging small shafts.

This method works great with our pin wrench and Trunnion Torque Tool. Follow the calculator and you’re set.
