RockShox Super Deluxe Air (2017–2022) Full DIY Rebuild Toolkit

This kit works for all 2017–2022 RockShox Super Deluxe Air models. Same shock family, but enough small differences exist between generations that we keep separate pages to keep instructions clear and beginner-friendly.

What’s Included

Everything else can be done with basic shop tools, strap wrench, Allen keys, and a bleed syringe.

Safety Disclaimer (Read First)

WARNING: This is a pressurized air shock.

  • Release air spring pressure gradually (never all at once) or the shock can “truck down” and pull itself in
  • Then fully release damper pressure before opening anything
  • No need to remove adjusters unless they’re leaking — they’re sealed and easy to damage unnecessarily
Required Extras (Not Included)

You need an IFP air valve adapter to pressurize the damper with a shock pump:

A Schrader valve core remover is mandatory.

Trunnion Shock Tip

If your Super Deluxe or Vivid is Trunnion-mounted (M10 bolt on each side instead of a standard eyelet), we highly recommend:

Trunnion Shock Vise Holder / Torque Tool

The shock body sits very close to the mounting tabs. This tool gives clearance and keeps torque aligned during reassembly.

IFP Depth, Damper Pressure & Oil
  • Shocks with < 75 mm stroke: IFP depth = 33 mm
  • Shocks with ≥ 75 mm stroke: IFP depth = 39 mm
  • Damper pressure: 250 psi
  • Recommended oil: Maxima Plush 7 wt

If you’re unsure about your stroke, measure shaft travel or check your shock’s markings before setting IFP depth.

Bleeding Tips

This shock uses a twin-tube layout (similar to Fox Float X / DPX2) and can be tricky to bleed properly.

We recommend watching this walkthrough and skipping to 4:50 for the bleed sequence:

Take your time. Most “bad rebuilds” on this shock are simply trapped air.
