FOX DHX RC2 / RC4 (2010–2015) Full DIY Rebuild Toolkit

Complete DIY rebuild toolkit for FOX DHX RC2 and RC4 rear shocks (2010–2015). This kit covers both shaft diameter variants and gives you the correct clamping and measurement tools to replace dynamic seals, service the damper, and reset IFP depth correctly.

What it does
  • Enables a complete damper rebuild (oil + dynamic seals).
  • Allows safe shaft clamping on both DHX shaft diameters.
  • Provides accurate IFP depth reset after bleeding.
  • Supports proper servicing without opening non-leaking components.

With basic hand tools and this kit, you can restore proper damping function at home without shop-only fixtures.

Compatibility
  • FOX DHX RC2 (2010–2015)
  • FOX DHX RC4 (2010–2015)
  • Both 1/2" (≈12.7 mm) and 5/8" (≈15.8 mm) shaft versions
Required tools (NOT included)
  • Schrader valve core tool (mandatory).
  • Essential non-printable tools used across damper service: Essential Tools .
Pro tip: These older DHX shocks frequently leak at the Schrader valve core. Replacing the core during service is strongly recommended, even if it appears fine.
⚠️ Special tool warning

The reservoir cap is recessed and narrow. A standard wrench will not fit. You need a 32 mm cone wrench (headset-style).

A vise grip will work in a pinch, but expect cosmetic damage to the cap.

Seal kits (never included)
IFP pressure & depth

IFP pressure: ~160 psi

Measure depth from the flat surface (not the raised rim):

  • 10.500 × 3.500 → 1.100"
  • 9.500 × 3.000 → 1.020"
  • 8.750 × 2.750 → 0.980"
  • 8.500 × 2.500 → 0.940"
  • 7.875 × 2.250 → 0.900"
  • 7.875 × 2.000 → 0.860"
  • 7.500 × 2.000 → 0.860"
Important notes
  • Most issues come from dynamic seals or the IFP seal.
  • Dead rebound is often caused by poor bleeding or incorrect IFP pressure.
  • Do not unthread the piggyback unless it is leaking.
  • Clean shafts with isopropyl alcohol and wrap with dry paper towel before clamping.
  • Heat eyelets and Loctited parts before removal.
