Float X2 2019–2020 Full DIY Rebuild Toolkit
⚠️ You MUST Read the Full Manual Before Buying This Tool kit
This shock is extremely easy to damage. If you skip the manual, you will break the shaft clamps or strip critical internals. Especially on the 2016–2020 Float X2 with its fragile 9 mm shaft, mistakes are easy and expensive.
Always depressurize the IFP AND open the bleed screw slowly. These shocks often stay pressurized even after releasing IFP pressure due to internal aeration of the oil. If you skip this step, the damper can shoot oil.
View the Shaft Clamp Usage ManualIf you don’t feel confident, do not buy this tool kit. I’m not here to make money off mistakes. I built these tools to help people service their shocks safely. If you won’t take the time to read the manual, this isn’t the tool for you. Please, save yourself the trouble.
A complete DIY rebuild toolkit for Float X2 shocks from 2019 to 2020. Includes all tools needed for a 50h or 200h service at home, from clamping the shaft to replacing every seal. Also works on 2016-2018 X2 with the same shaft and air can.
The Adjusters pin socket is hidden inside the Piggy Back Cap :O
Buy the MTB Hydraulics seal kit. It’s cheaper than Fox’s and works perfectly , even better in our experience.
What’s Included
- Float X2 2016–2020 Small Shaft Clamp (9 mm) : choose short, medium, or long depending on shock stroke. The Clamp set is included TWO times with the kit for the stroke you selected.
- Float X2 Air Can Wrench (All Years) : sacrificial plastic sockets or optional 7075 aluminum insert
- IFP Depth Tool (Graduated) : for setting IFP piston height
- Float X2 Inner Air Can Clamp (All Years) : critical for holding the grooved inner can during service
- Float X2 2019–2020 Sealhead Splined Socket : required to open the damper sealhead
- X2 Bullet Tool : it's better to insert the sealhead from the piston side but to be honest, you should do it on the eyleet side with a lot of grease and a bit of force, I do it every time and my X2's never leaked.
Must-Read Manuals
- Small Shaft Clamp Manual : required reading before clamping
- Inner air Can Shaft Clamp Guide : explains air can clamping techniques
- Float X2 Techniques Manual (PDF) : damper, sealhead, and service tips
Key Differences From 2016–2018
- Sealhead uses splined socket instead of 14 mm wrench
- Inner air can has external Ring Grooves : clamp as shown in the official FOX service manual so basically not in the Non-Ribbed part, just clamp in between the ribs.
Alternative "No-Eyelet" Setup
For damper opening without eyelet removal, use the open-style splined socket:
Optional Tools (Not Included)
- Soft Vise Jaws : protects eyelets and clamps in vise
- Trunnion Torque Tool : only needed if you have M10 trunnion mounts
Optional Upgrades
If you plan to service multiple generations, get the newer kit, many tools overlap.
Please Don’t Buy All Clamp Heights
If you're trying to get short, medium, and long, please don’t. Just buy the real Fox clamp and select 9mm. This is a DIY kit, not a shop-grade toolset. If you ever need another length, grab it here: Float X2 Shaft Clamp.
It takes us 18 hours with the full DIY tool kit to make a full triple-size run, don’t make us and do your homework. If you need this, you probably shouldn't be on this website and buy the real fox tools. This is going to be even more expensive than the real metal clamp.

Important Notes
- Don’t open adjusters unless leaking, fragile and easy to break
- Clean shafts & air cans with isopropyl alcohol before clamping
- Wrap shafts with dry paper to maximize friction and protect the surface while clamping
- Use gentle heat on any Loctited threads
