Float X2 2016–2020 Small Shaft Clamp (9 mm)
Precision clamp designed to hold the very small 9 mm damper shaft found on FOX Float X2 2016–2020 shocks. Available in three lengths depending on stroke. This tool requires extra care and must be used exactly as instructed.
⚠️ Important warning (read before buying)
This tool is easy to misuse and break. You must read the small shaft clamp guide or you will almost certainly deform or break the clamp. With shafts this small, technique matters more than force.
Each purchase includes two clamps (a matched pair). If you break one by skipping the guide, you still have a backup. If you read the guide first, both clamps will likely last a very long time.
Buying all three heights? You’ll receive six clamps total (2 per length). These are printed in-house and take time to produce, please follow the instructions carefully.
What this tool does
This clamp allows you to hold the damper shaft securely in a bench vise during service, mainly for eyelet removal or reinstallation. Because the shaft diameter is extremely small, the clamp is reinforced but still unforgiving if misused.
- Fits the 9 mm shaft used on Float X2 (2016–2020)
- Available in Short, Medium, and Long depending on stroke
- Not compatible with Float X2 (2021–2025) or 2026+
Compatibility
- FOX Float X2 2016–2020
- 9 mm damper shaft only
Which height to choose?
- Short: 52.5–57.5 mm stroke
- Medium: 60–62.5 mm stroke
- Long: 65–75 mm stroke
- Stroke < 52.5 mm: use the method that opens the shock without removing the eyelet
Tip: A standard 9 mm shaft clamp can work for all versions if you use our technique to open the shock without removing the eyelet. Make sure the inner air sleeve is fully threaded into the negative sealhead so the clamp can slide into position.
Official FOX metal alternative (recommended for frequent use):
FOX Float X2 2016–2020 Metal Shaft Clamp
Alternative method (recommended)
To completely avoid clamping the shaft, you can open the damper without removing the eyelet. This allows the use of a longer clamp underneath the shock and greatly reduces risk.
Tool used for this workflow:
Float X2 2019–2020 Splined Socket
Additional warnings
- Never clamp oily, dirty, or greasy shafts, the clamp will slip or break
- If the clamp doesn’t slide on easily, check if the air sleeve is obstructing access
- Using the wrong length can damage the shaft or prevent proper clamping
