Bomber Air Full DIY Rebuild Toolkit
This is a complete home rebuild toolkit for the Marzocchi Bomber Air. It includes all the critical tools required for damper service, including all the tools for a full 50h–200h rebuild.
Includes only the o-rings that need to be changed.
It's almost exactly the same procedure as the Fox Float X. If you already own tools for that shock, you're good to go!
When torquing back the main piston stud and nut, be very careful, it’s easy to break the shaft due to the small internal cross-drilled holes.
What It Does
Allows full teardown and rebuild of your Bomber Air shock. Designed specifically for home mechanics, not for shop use.
What's Included
- 1/2" Shaft Clamp : works with the FLOAT X and Bomber Air main shaft
- Graduated IFP Depth Tool : for setting proper IFP depth during rebuild
- Float X Pin Socket : needed for 47.5–75 mm travel shocks only (over 45 mm)
- 2× Main Dynamic O-rings (included) : damper shaft seal O-ring and IFP seal O-ring. These are the two dynamic seals that should be replaced every time and are the ones I personally change during a 200-hour service.
Important note on seals:
This kit includes the two critical dynamic O-rings (damper shaft + IFP). If you are chasing air leaks or external oil leaks that are not coming from the damper shaft, this may not be sufficient.
For a more complete seal refresh, you can use a full service kit:
Anso
MTB Hydraulics
Optional but Recommended (Not included):
- Trunnion Shock Vise Holder : strongly recommended if your Bomber Air uses a trunnion mount
Required Base Shop Tools (Not Included)
Only the tools listed in “What’s Included” above are part of this kit. You will also need standard shop tools listed on these pages:
A valve core remover is very important.
You can easily hand-bleed this shock by following the Fox DPX2 manual, the procedure is almost identical:
Compatibility, Reservoir & IFP Specs
Notes on Compatibility
- Bomber Air 37.5–45 mm travel shocks use a different bearing housing. You can open these with a 32 mm wrench after removing the travel spacer plate
- You can use a Knipex Pliers Wrench on the sealhead if you're on a budget, it may mark the surface slightly, but that part is cosmetic and internal
- Bomber Air 47.5–75 mm shocks require the pin socket tool included in this kit (or a 10" Knipex if you don’t mind cosmetic marks)
- No base valve or rebound pin sockets are required, only standard wrenches
- For the piggy back we will need to measure the diameter to make the shaft clamp but it's not that useful anyway for a 200h service.
Reservoir & IFP Specs
- IFP pressure: 150 psi
- Use 4wt damper oil
IFP Depth Estimate:
IFP Movement (mm) = Stroke (mm) × 0.2184 Estimated IFP Depth = IFP Movement + 20 mm
Example: 65 mm Stroke
- 65 × 0.2184 = 14.22 mm IFP movement
- Estimated IFP Depth = 14.22 + 20 = around 34 mm
Important Safety Notes & Disclaimers
- Always release air spring pressure before opening the air can
- Then release damper pressure via the IFP air valve using a Fox/RockShox IFP valve adapter
- Never open a pressurized shock, this can cause serious injury
- If unsure, do not proceed. Seek professional help
