RockShox Super Deluxe Air (2017-2022) Full DIY Rebuild Toolkit

⚠️ Safety Disclaimer

WARNING: This is an air shock. Always release pressure gradually from the air spring, never all at once, or it may "truck down" and pull itself in.

After that, fully release all pressure from the damper before disassembly. This is a pressurized system, always treat it with care.

There's no need to remove the adjusters unless they’re leaking, they’re sealed and usually fine for years.

This kit works for all years of Super Deluxe Air I make different pages to make sure you guys have a good explaination for each of them.

 Design Note

Unlike the 2023+ Super Deluxe Coil, this version’s piggyback and adjuster assembly is not removable. You’ll be working with the full shock body in one piece.

 IFP Air Fill Adapter (Required)

Like all RockShox shocks, you’ll need an IFP air valve adapter to pressurize the damper side with your shock pump:

Do not forget to get yourself a schrader valve core tool!

 Trunnion Shock Tip

If your Super Deluxe or Vivid is Trunnion-mounted (M10 bolt on each side instead of standard eyelet), we highly recommend using a Trunnion Shock Vise Holder/Torque Tool.

The shock body sits very close to the mounting tabs, this tool gives you clearance and safe torque alignment during reassembly.

Here is a good Super Deluxe aftermarket Seal kit we really like and it's a lot cheaper.

 What's Included

  • 1/2" Shaft Clamp : Required to open the mid valve without risking to untread the main damper shaft from the body. You can also do it without it, your call.
  • M5 IFP Puller : Required to remove the internal floating piston
  • IFP Depth Tool

Everything else can be done with basic shop tools, strap wrench, Allen keys, and a bleed syringe.

 IFP Depth & Oil

  • Shocks with < 75 mm stroke: IFP Depth = 33 mm
  • Shocks with ≥ 75 mm stroke: IFP Depth = 39 mm
  • Damper Pressure: 250 psi
  • Recommended Oil: Maxima Plush 7wt

 Bleeding Tips

This shock uses a twin-tube layout (similar to Fox Float X and DPX2) and can be a bit tricky to bleed properly.

We highly recommend watching this walkthrough, skip to 4:50 for the bleed sequence:
