Highly recommended seal kits
Cheap and reliable seal kits from MTB-Hydraulics:
Includes all seals needed and often ships via untracked mail for only a few dollars.
Sealhead removal tip (important)
Do not open the piston nut, this is a common cause of shaft damage. Instead, remove the sealhead from the eyelet side (only possible with the O-ring style sealhead from the MTB-Hydraulics kit). If you’re using the official FOX kit, you’ll typically need to use the bullet tool from the piston side.
What’s included in this kit
⚠️ If you broke the shaft tip
The shaft may still be usable. If enough thread remains, you can install a thin-profile 1/4-28 nut with red Loctite. Any industrial hardware store should have it (usually around $1).
If the break is too low, you’ll need a new shaft. Use this link to find the correct replacement (choose carefully): X2 9mm Shaft Search
Optional add-ons
- All Years DHX2 Clamp (2016+)
- Trunnion Torque Tool (for M10 trunnion bolts)
You’ll also need (not included)
- Bench vise
- Knipex 10" pliers (recommended)
- Adjustable wrench (only if the sealhead is not overtightened)
- Shock oil + compatible DHX2 seal kit
- Torque wrench or luggage scale
- Foot pump with balloon fitting (to eject the IFP)
See our Essential Tools page for these.
IFP removal tip
Use a compressor on the bleed port (after draining oil), or use a foot pump with a balloon adapter and tape to blow the IFP out from the reservoir. Cover it with a rag, it can eject fast.
Safety reminders
- Depressurize the damper before opening
- Open the bleed port slowly to release trapped pressure
- Use the IFP Depth Tool guide to set depth accurately
