Fox GRIP Damper Body Clamp – All Years
Works with GRIP 1, GRIP 2, and GRIP 2 VVC. This is the clamp you need to safely work on any Fox GRIP damper.
Not required for GRIP X or GRIP X2, but still compatible.
Critical Warning
Never clamp a GRIP damper body directly in a bench vise. The damper tube is thin aluminum and will ovalize easily.
Improper clamping can cause compression damper internals to jam or the IFP to leak.
Always clean the damper body with isopropyl alcohol and wrap it in paper before using this clamp.
Read the full usage guide here: How to Clamp Large Diameters
What It Does
- Securely holds the GRIP damper body for bleeding, oil changes, or compression assembly removal
- Required for damper service, oil replacement, inspection of damper internals, revalving, or mid-valve access
- If replacing compression assembly needle seals, rebound-side seals, or the sealhead, you will also need:
- 8 mm shaft clamp for the compression assembly
- 10 mm shaft clamp for the main damper shaft
- Compatible with GRIP 1, GRIP 2, and GRIP 2 VVC
- GRIP X and GRIP X2 dampers have integrated clamping flats and do not require this tool
- Pairs perfectly with the Basic Shaft Driver or Deluxe Driver
Compatibility Notes
- Fits all GRIP dampers in Fox 32, 34, 36, 38, and 40 forks
- Not compatible with taper-cast forks. Lower leg shaft driver support coming later
- Top cap socket size varies between 26 mm and 28 mm depending on year
- A Fox 6-in-1 wrench is strongly recommended
- Fox 40 compatibility is not fully confirmed, but works well with a 6-in-1 wrench such as this one
Important Oil Compatibility Note
GRIP dampers are designed to ingest lowers bath oil over time.
The oil used in the lowers must match the oil used in the damper.
Use Fox 4wt damper fluid in both the damper and the lowers.
Heavier oils such as 5wt or 10wt can slightly stiffen damping feel.
20wt is too heavy and will negatively affect damper performance over time.
Never run 4wt in the damper and 20wt in the lowers. Oil migration will thicken the mixture and increase damping unpredictably.
Recommended Extras
Oil & Prep
- Fox Suspension Fluid – 4wt (damper + lowers)
- 60 ml or larger syringe for lowers bath oil
- See Fox oil volume charts
- Always use the same oil in damper and lowers on GRIP dampers
- Slickoleum grease. Never use Vaseline
