Β Fox/Marzocchi Forks Basic Damper Shaft Driver

This is our take to make a tool to drive the tip of the damper shaft into the lower legs for a lower leg service. We tried to make it as cheap as possible so we can sell it at a fair price, with the same efficiency as the real metal tools.

Β What It Does:

  • Threads into the exposed rebound shaft (damper side) of Fox or Marzocchi forks
  • Lets you tap out the lower leg without damaging the low-speed rebound meter rod or rebound internals.
  • Plastic tip is safe, cheap, and replaceable if it wears out
  • Helps avoid $200+ mistakes like cracked leaf springs, VVC internals or rebound meter rod.
  • Works with a rubber mallet, block of wood, or gentle hammer
Compatible With:
Fox 34, 36, 38, and 40 mm forks (all years) : damper side only.
Equivalent to FOX part number 398-00-682.
⚠️ Not compatible with taper-cast forks. A solution is coming : most users do not have this issue.

Β What's Included:

  • Plastic handle with internal thread
  • 2x replaceable plastic driver tip (will last 5-10 service each)
  • Optional: upgrade to 3 extra tips for $10 more
Want more flexibility?
You can upgrade to the Deluxe Dual-Sided Driver, which includes:
  • Threaded nut for the air shaft side
  • Same (Cross-compatible) replaceable tip system for the damper side
  • Two-sided compact body, ideal for regular fork service

How To Use our tool:Β

  1. Release all the air in the fork
  2. Remove the rebound adjusters (2mm allen)Β
  3. Unscrew both the damper side nut and the air shaft side nuts with a long socket (10mm/15mm) and a ratchet.
  4. Remove the small plastic crush washer on each side if you can
  5. Thread the driver tip fully onto the rebound shaft until it bottoms on the inside shoulder of the tool (Don't screw too hard, the threads are plastic)
    • If you don't thread it fully, the impact will not go on the inside flat and break the threads, which is not a big dealΒ  and will still work but it's nice when the tool holds itself up.
  1. Hold the fork upright and gently strike the tool with a rubber mallet
  2. Do not hit on the center smaller shaft directly without the tool!!
  3. Also hit on the air shaft side but with a normal rubber mallet or a block of wood to protect it.
  4. Once the shafts breaks free, remove the lowers and proceed with cleaning
Extra Tips:
⚠️ Warning:
Do not hit directly on the rebound shaft tip, especially on GRIP2 or VVC forks.
You can damage the low-speed meter rod, break rebound leaf springs, or crack the mid-valve stack. This tool avoids all of that.

Β For shops and advanced users: if you're doing 10+ services, consider buying the real fox tool.
