Pro Tips & Procedures
Setup Tips for riding
- Keep LSR fully open or close to it, a closed LSR chokes compression flow in this damper
- Recommended baseline: LSC/HSC fully closed, LSR 3 clicks from open, HSR 3–4 clicks from closed
Compression Assembly
- Remove compression side, replace IFP + base valve seals
- Do not disassemble VVC shim stack unless tuning
-
Torques:
– Mid-valve: 4.5 Nm
– Rebound assembly: 4.5 Nm
– Sealhead into damper: 16.9 Nm
– Compression assembly: 16.9 Nm
– Damper into fork: 15–20 Nm
– Bottom nut on lowers: 12.4 Nm - Open all adjusters fully before bleeding
Rebound side Disassembly
- Start on the rebound side, not the mid valve
- Clamp in the 10mm clamp, remove rebound assembly (don’t lose detent ball)
- Unscrew mid-valve (12mm wrench) from the flats at the bottom without touching the VVC rebound and shims, slide sealhead off, replace seals
- Rebound side is same as 2019–2020 GRIP2 non-VVC
Air Shaft Notes
- Fox 38 NA2: remove air-shaft tip to push piston out, factory grease sits under piston
- Fox 40: needs SPA-1 pin wrench for air piston
Critical Bleed Advice
- Never insert the damper shaft fully after bleeding, leave 2–3 cm from the top
- Grease dust wipers and lower bushings generously with SRAM Butter
Warnings & Disclaimer
- Do not use an adjustable wrench — use a chamferless socket (26–28mm)
- Clean shafts with isopropyl before clamping
- Do not open VVC shim stacks unless revalving
- Not compatible with taper-cast forks
Disclaimer: DIY only. Do not clamp near logos or threads. See our Terms of Service.
