Safety Disclaimer (Read First)
WARNING: These are high-pressure shocks. Always fully release air pressure before opening any damper or air spring.
You will need a valve core remover, a shock pump rated for 300–600 PSI, and a RockShox IFP Fill Adapter.
See the Essential Tools Starter Pack for all required basics.
If you’re unsure at any step, do not proceed.
Overview
This toolkit covers the entire RockShox Monarch lineup: R, RT3, RL, RT, XX, and Monarch Plus (piggyback).
These shocks are fairly beginner-friendly, but IFP depth must be set correctly to avoid damage or hydraulic lock.
Confirm your exact model and year using your serial number on SRAM Trailhead.
What’s Included
Kit includes either the extra-long IFP tool.
- Monarch Shaft Clamp Kit : 9 mm, 10 mm, and 1/2" grooves
-
Extra-Long IFP Depth Tool : Required for most non-piggyback Monarchs
No IFP puller required. The IFP is ejected by air pressure. Block the shaft with a rag, it can launch forcefully.
Required Extras (Not Included)
- RockShox IFP Air Fill Adapter
- Valve Core Remover + High-Pressure Pump : Mandatory to depressurize and refill the damper
Critical IFP Warnings
- Never fill damper oil with the IFP valve open
- Set IFP depth before pressurizing
- Measure from the flat center surface, not the outer lip
- Test full stroke before adding pressure, hydraulic lock will destroy the damper
IFP Depth, Pressure & Oil
Oil note:
- Use Fox 4wt or Motorex 2.5wt instead of RockShox 3wt
- Use RockShox 7wt or Motorex 7.5wt where specified
Most Monarchs require a 300–600 PSI pump.
Exact IFP depth, pressure, and oil weight vary by model and stroke.

Practical Tips
- Always measure IFP depth from the center
- Never open the fill port while adding oil
- Test full stroke before pressurizing
- Unscrew the air adapter quickly or pressure won’t hold
- Block the shaft when ejecting the IFP
