What is the stroke of my Float X2 2016-2020?
Do you need all the strokes?

⚠️ Important Warning – Read Before Buying

This tool is easy to misuse and break. You must read our guide on how to use small shaft clamps properly or you will almost certainly deform it or break it.

When you buy one, you get two clamps (a pair). That way, if you break one by not reading the guide, you still have a backup. But if you read the guide first, you’ll probably never break either and they'll last a long time.

If you buy all three stroke sizes, you’ll receive a total of six clamps (2 of each length). They’re printed in-house and take time to produce, so please follow the instructions.

Float X2 2016–2020 Small Shaft Clamp (9 mm)

This is a precision clamp designed to hold the very small 9 mm damper shaft found in Float X2 shocks from 2016 to 2020. It comes in three lengths depending on stroke size and requires extra care to use properly, please read all setup instructions carefully.

What It Does

This clamp lets you safely hold the damper shaft in a bench vise during service, especially for removing or reinstalling the eyelet. Since this shaft is extremely small, the clamp is reinforced but requires proper prep to avoid breakage. Available in three lengths to match your shock’s stroke.

  • Fits 9 mm shaft used on Float X2 (2016–2020)
  •  Choose short, medium, or long depending on stroke (see below)
  • ❗ Not compatible with 2021–2025 or 2026+ Float X2 models

Which Height to Choose?

  • Short: For stroke lengths between 52.5–57.5 mm
  • Medium: For 60–62.5 mm strokes
  • Long: For strokes between 65–75 mm
  • If your shock stroke is less than 52.5mm: You need to do the technique to open the shock without removing the eyelet first.

💡 Tip: If you're unsure, a normal 9mm shaft clamp will work for all versions if you use our technique explained in the PDF to open the shock without removing the eyelet. Just make sure the inner air sleeve is screwed down all the way into the negative sealhead so the clamp can slide into place.

How to Use

  • Clean the shaft thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol, do it multiple times
  • Wrap the shaft in dry paper towel to increase friction and avoid slipping
  • Use a vise and apply firm but even pressure on the clamp, do not overtighten
  • Heat the eyelet with a heat gun or torch: Fox uses red Loctite on these threads

Read the Full Small Shaft Clamp Manualvery important or you will break it, 100% chance.

Alternative Method (Recommended)

If you want to avoid clamping the shaft entirely, you can open the damper without removing the eyelet. This method allows you to use a long clamp underneath the shock. See the guide for this workflow:

Warnings

  • Do not use oily, dirty, or greasy shafts : the clamp will slip or break
  • This clamp is small and requires exact fit : if it doesn’t go on easily, check if your air sleeve is in the way
  • Using the wrong length may damage your shaft or prevent proper clamping
