Replace the 8mm clamp with a 8-10 combo?

Cane Creek HELM (Air) Fork – 200h Air Shaft Rebuild

Complete air spring rebuild service for Cane Creek HELM MKI and MKII forks. Replace all dynamic seals, clean out the air spring assembly, and restore full sensitivity and performance.

Cane Creek says 100h service but you can extend that.

You should be ok with doing lower leg services if you want to get into that kind of maintenance.

Don't forget the put a lot of sram butter on the lower leg stanchion bushings and inside the dust wiper seals! Quite the secret to have a very good fork with almost no sticky friction (Stiction).

If you have the Coil Spring Version, you don't need any tools from us.

What This Covers:
  • Full teardown of the air shaft assembly (not just the lowers)
  • Compatible with both HELM MKI and HELM MKII forks
  • 8mm air shaft service (very rare diameter, be careful with clamp choice if you don't get the kit)
  • Includes a precise 8mm shaft clamp for proper disassembly
  • Also includes the 35mm dust wiper seal Tool
  • You upgrade your clamp to the 8-10 combo to also service the damper
What You’ll Need:
  • Isopropyl alcohol + lint-free rags
  • Torque wrench (capable of 5–10 Nm)
  • 22mm socket (for MKI negative sealhead)
  • Snap ring pliers (for MKII circlip assembly)
  • Slickoleum or SRAM Butter
  • 20mm crowfoot wrench (required for MKII sealhead assembly)
  • Or use a narrow Knipex 8" or 10" pliers in a pinch, let us know if it worked!

Pro Tips:
  • Depressurize the fork and equalize internal chambers before disassembly, be carefull, this is a two chamber fork.
  • Grease all new seals lightly to reduce initial break-in friction
  • Don't forget the put a lot of sram butter on the lower leg stanchion bushings and inside the dust wiper seals! Quite the secret to have a very good fork with almost no sticky friction (Stiction).
  • The 8mm shaft diameter is unusual, don’t use generic clamps
  • Always clamp the full round diameter and use isopropyl on the shaft + paper wrap to maximize grip

HELM forks are among the few with 8mm air shafts. This reduces friction but makes them more flexible so you might get a bit more flex in your fork, or not! Maybe Cane Creek found a way to increase stiffness, they are a very good compagny.

Included In This Kit:
⚠️ Important Notes:
- Don’t overtighten anything, all air seals are held by O-rings, not brute force
- Use isopropyl alcohol and paper to increase grip in the shaft clamp
- Make sure your 22mm socket fits properly (MKI only)
- Never push or tap directly on the center shafts, support them properly
