9 mm Shaft Clamp
Designed specifically for 9 mm damper shafts. Intended for coil shocks or fork dampers where the shaft is directly accessible.
Note: The product photo showing a piston uses the DHX2 3/8″ clamp, not the 9 mm version.
Technical Details & Compatibility
This clamp is designed to safely grip 9 mm damper shafts in a bench vise.
- Fits: FOX DHX2 (2016–2020)
- Also fits: FOX Float DPS and SL (all years)
- Conditional: FOX Float X2 (2016–2020) only when using the “open from below” technique
- Not compatible: Float X2 (2021+)
- Not suitable: Air shocks with the eyelet still attached
If the shaft is not directly accessible, this clamp is the wrong tool.
Setup & Usage
- Clean the shaft thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol
- No oil, grease, or residue on the shaft
- Wrap the shaft with a dry paper towel to increase friction
- Clamp with even vise pressure, do not overtighten
- Heat any Loctited components before applying torque

Float X2 (2016–2020) Technique Note
The early Float X2 can be opened without removing the eyelet by using a special internal technique.
This requires unthreading the damper tube internally first, then clamping lower on the shaft.
If you don’t know this procedure, do not attempt it.
Safety & Warnings
WARNING: Always fully depressurize both air and damper circuits before disassembly.
- Never clamp a pressurized damper shaft
- Oily or dirty shafts will slip and damage the clamp
- Using the wrong clamp size will damage both the shaft and the tool
- If it does not seat easily, stop and re-check shaft diameter
Slippage almost always comes from poor cleaning or incorrect sizing.
