Rockshox Charger Race Day 1 & 2 Dampers Info
Charger Race Day & Race Day 2 – Damper-Only DIY Service Notes
This is not really a tool kit, it’s more of a helpful note for anyone servicing Charger Race Day dampers found in RockShox SID and SID SL forks. These ultra-lightweight XC dampers are found in SID SL Ultimate 2021–2023, SID 2024+ (Select/Ultimate), and other top-tier XC forks.
Make sure you correctly identify your damper model using the RockShox Trailhead Tool before attempting any work. There are a lot of similar dampers, and the Charger Race Day and Race Day 2 have subtle differences, especially around how the bleed port is accessed (top vs side).
Manuals That Actually Help:
What You’re Really Doing Here
- Bleeding the damper and swapping oil, RockShox doesn’t provide internal damper rebuild steps
- Very lightweight fork and you don't ride downhill with it so just change the oil and that’s already a big improvement
- Use a basic syringe kit for the bleed, the 2021–2023 version has a top cap port, while the 2024+ version has a small bleed port on the side (accessed via 2mm hex)
- Forks with Flight Attendant just use a fancy servo that turns the damper, it pulls off easily (see manual), just remove the screw and slide it out in Open position
My Thoughts (and Why I Don’t Sell a Tool Kit for It):
RockShox doesn't document full internal teardown or mid-valve work for these dampers, they’re treated as sealed units. Bleeding is simple and effective though. Unless you’re racing UCI World Cups, a clean bleed and fresh oil does the job.
If you feel like you’re missing a clamp or something to safely hold it, let me know here, I might be able to help.

Tools & Fluids You’ll Need
- Cassette Tool to unscrew the damper from the fork
- Bleed syringe : same as for brakes or other open-bath systems
- RockShox 3wt damper oil or as specified in the manual
- 2mm Allen key to access side bleed screw (2024+ SID)
- Isopropyl alcohol + lint-free cloth to clean the damper
Disclaimer:
This is not a full damper rebuild, just an oil refresh/bleed. SRAM doesn’t provide teardown guides or internals service for Charger Race Day dampers.
Do this only if you’re comfortable working on sealed hydraulic cartridges. Always follow official manuals linked above. You agree to our Terms of Service by following this guide.
