How to Use Our Open Style Air Can Wrenches

⚠️ Important Safety Warning:
Before using this tool, fully depressurize your air can. If your shock is stuck down (the air can is pulled in and won’t extend), repressurize it to at least 100 psi to equalize the chambers. Then, slowly release pressure in 25 psi steps while allowing the chambers to equalize. Opening a stuck-down shock without doing this can result in forceful ejection of the air can, which is extremely dangerous. Always treat air shocks as pressurized systems, serious injury is possible.

This style of wrench has two small swing-out handles that you must hold while torquing. It works on shocks with external grooves or notches that need more clearance or leverage to open. Unlike the closed version, this requires proper alignment and holding force during use.

How It Works

  • Set the wrench teeth into the air can slots
  • Hold the secondary arms closed firmly while torquing
  • Ensure that all teeth are in contact : this prevents shearing of individual teeth
  • Tool is designed to keep torque evenly distributed across the teeth, very strong and reliable if used properly

Important Tips

  • βœ… Always align the wrench teeth correctly with the piggyback can grooves
  • βœ… Most of the time, the piggyback must go between the two handles to allow proper clearance
  • β›” Do not use this tool without holding the secondary arms, the wrench will flex open and damage the teeth

Recommended Tools

Use With:

Use this wrench only when:

  • You have enough space around the shock to accommodate side handles
  • The air can uses multiple teeth or grooves that can withstand high torque without sacrificial parts
  • You need additional clearance or torque flexibility

Disclaimer

⚠️ Open-style air can wrenches require proper technique and hand alignment. Always verify that the wrench is fully seated and held in position. Failure to do so can damage the tool or the air can. For best results, follow the manual and torque recommendations. By using this tool, you agree to our terms of service.
