Adaptive Air Token for Fox 38

Patent Pending Technology

Also compatible with Marzocchi Super Z

Run lower pressure. Get better support. Skip the harsh damping.

The VSS is 100% polymer and uses virtual volume technology to temporarily change your fork’s effective air chamber volume based on impact intensity and duration, automatically, in real time.

More Grip Lower pressure, better traction
Adaptive Support 1 to 6 tokens on demand
Zero Maintenance 100% plastic, no moving parts

VSS Configuration Tool (Required)

Answer a couple quick questions and in 30 seconds you’ll have the ideal VSS setup for your fork. Token size and default nozzle are selected automatically. Plug and play.

Two additional nozzles are included if you ever want to fine-tune the support feel.

 What's Included
  • 1× VSS Smart Air Token for Fox 38 / Marzocchi Super Z (100% plastic, installs like a standard spacer)
  • Your selected nozzle (e.g., SZ3)
  • +1 softer nozzle (e.g., SZ4) for less aggressive support
  • -1 firmer nozzle (e.g., SZ2) for more intense support
  • Nozzle wrench for tool-free swapping

💡 Pro tip: Swap nozzles in 2 minutes to fine-tune support. Most riders stick with their original size.

 How It Works

Virtual volume, not physical volume. The VSS decides when to change your air chamber's effective volume and for how long. Adapting in real-time based on how hard you're riding.

  • Cruising sections: Acts like 1 token: plush, grippy, maximum sensitivity
  • Charging hard (Rockgardens, slabs, roots, medium compressions): Ramps up to 3-5 tokens worth of support for a short time lapse, keeps you in the mid-stroke the entire time (Sag to 75% travel).
  • Big hits / bottom-out events: Ramps up to 6 tokens through most of the travel, then backs off to 1-2 tokens in the last 5-10% of travel, the entire fork works efficiently to absorb the impact.

On massive hits, it can stay at full virtual volume the entire stroke. You use your full travel efficiently, whatever the hit. No more wasted stroke, no more harsh bottom-outs.

VSS Enduro vs DH Version (Important)

VSS Enduro:
Recommended for most riders and all-around riding. Best option for Fox 38 and most Super Z setups.

VSS DH:
Equivalent to a very firm compression tune. Designed for aggressive riders, bike park use, racing, and very hard impacts.

Recommended usage:

  • 180mm forks: Strongly recommended to use the enduro version
  • 170mm / 160mm forks: DH version can work well if you want maximum support
  • 190mm Super Z: DO NOT use the DH version

Important: The DH version is not compatible with the 190mm Marzocchi Super Z and may contact internally at full stroke. Always use the enduro VSS version for 190mm Super Z forks.

 Common Questions

Q: Will this fit my fork?
A: Yes—fits all Fox 38 and Marzocchi Super Z models (2020+). Installs exactly like a standard volume spacer.

Q: Does it need maintenance?
A: No. 100% plastic with no moving parts. Conservative lifespan is 2-3 years, but realistically it could last forever.

Q: Do I need to change my air pressure?
A: No. Most riders keep their current pressure or drop it by 5 PSI for more grip and comfort.

Q: What if I pick the wrong size?
A: You get 3 nozzles (your size + 1 softer + 1 firmer). Swap them in 2 minutes with the included wrench.

Q: How is this different from adding more tokens?
A: Volume spacers can work for some people, but they only fix one problem, harsh bottom-outs. They don't stop you from riding deep in your travel; you still use all the stroke, it just claps harder at the end. The VSS adapts from 1 to 6 tokens worth of support based on impact intensity, keeping you higher in the travel when charging, managing the stroke efficiently on big hits, then backing off in the final 5-10% to avoid the harsh ramp up. You use your full travel efficiently, whatever the hit. Basically feels like a variable coil spring.

About the nozzles: The nozzle controls how fast air moves inside the VSS. That fill rate determines how aggressively the virtual volume builds during compressions. You can swap it in 2 minutes to tune support feel, but most riders run the pre-selected size and never change it.
