Domain Damper + Air Shaft Rebuild Toolkit
This kit is for home mechanics servicing both the domain damper and the DebonAir air shaft. Great for a full 200-hour service if your fork has some years on it.
Need Seals?
Damper Section
This damper uses an open bath damper directly in the stanchion.
Air Shaft Section
Very beginner friendly. DebonAir air shafts are easy to replace or service. Follow the service manual, clean everything properly, go light on grease, and double-check your travel before reassembly.
Whatβs Included in This Kit
- 10mm shaft clamp for the air shaft: You might not even need it but can be usefull to open the main piston, just get the 38mm dust wiper tool if you don't need it.
- 38mm dust wiper tool
Youβll Also Need (Not Included)
- 24mm socket or cassette tool (depends on your fork model)
- SRAM Butter, oil (depending on damper and air spring)
- Dust wiper + air piston seals (included in most service kits)
Small Diameter Clamp Reminder
If you're clamping any small shafts, always refer to the guide:
How to Use a Small Shaft Clamp
How to Use a Small Shaft Clamp
Oil Volume is Critical
This damper is open bath, meaning oil is not sealed inside a cartridge. The entire system relies on having the correct volume of oil inside the leg.
- Too little: the damper will cavitate and feel dead and inconsistent
- Too much: you risk hydro-locking and blowing out the seals
Correct volume (as per RockShox): 235 mL for Domain RC
See this oil volume chart to confirm your fork year/model.
Rebuild Steps Summary
- Remove top compression cap using cassette tool
- Rotate while pulling straight, the plastic assembly will slide out
- Use circlip pliers to remove the retaining clip at the bottom
- Pull out the entire damper shaft and sealhead (watch for oil spill)
- Replace o-rings and seals if needed
- Reinsert sealhead and circlip, refill to exactly 235 mL of oil
- Reinstall parts in reverse and thats it.
