Fox Forks Lower Leg Service – With Dust Wiper Replacement
Full 50-hour service procedure for Fox forks including new dust wiper seals. Clean your internals, change the oil, and reset your fork’s performance.
You only need to change your dust wiper seals after 200 hours.
Read our Dust wiper installation tool instructions.
Apply SRAM Butter on the lower leg stanchion bushings, it makes a HUGE difference in reducing stiction.
What You Need (Tools + Consumables)
- Fox 20wt Gold: air spring side
- Fox 4wt Fluid: GRIP damper side
- Slickoleum or SRAM Butter
- 60ml+ syringe with tube (see Fox Oil Chart)
- Soft mallet or block of wood
- 6-in-1 Top Cap Tool
- Your selected shaft driver (see options below)
- Dust Wiper Seal Press Tool (must match fork size)
What Is Included?
- Long Dust Wiper Seal Installation Tool (your selected size)
- Lower Leg Shaft Driver Tool (your selected model)
Oil Notes
– GRIP dampers ingest lower-leg oil → always use 4wt on damper side
– 20wt Gold on the air spring side only
– For NON-GRIP forks: 20wt Gold on both sides
– Soak foam rings in oil before reinstalling or they will drink all your lower-leg oil
– Add 3 ml of oil inside the positive air chamber of the air piston
Pro Tips
- Insert dust wipers slowly and straight, don’t drive them too deep
- Removing old wipers: a rounded/taped 32mm wrench works best (24mm also works)
- Never use anything sharp
- Grease dust wipers inside with SRAM Butter
- Pressurize air spring to 10–15 psi before reinstalling lowers to avoid vacuum
- Remove the spring ring before installation, slide wiper onto stanchion, reinstall spring ring after
- Never strike shafts directly, always use a driver or wood block
Disclaimer: This is a home mechanic guide. You are responsible for correct installation and safety. Always depressurize your fork completely before starting. See our Terms of Service.
