Fox Forks Lower Leg Service β No Dust Wiper Replacement
50-hour service procedure for Fox forks, without changing the dust wipers.Β
Revive your fork!! :)
Apply SRAM Butter on the lower leg stanchion bushings, it makes a huge difference on stick friction.
What You Need
- Fox 20wt Gold:Β for the air spring side (left leg)
- Fox 4wt Fluid:Β for the GRIP damper side (right leg)
- Slickoleum Grease (or SRAM Butter)
- 60ml+ syringe with tube (for accurate oil volumes, see Fox chart)
- Soft mallet or block of wood (for knocking shafts loose)
- 6-in-1 Top Cap Tool (air cap)
- One of our driver options (see below)
Oil Notes
β GRIP dampers ingest lower-leg oil over time β always use 4wt on damper side
β Use 20wt Gold on the air spring side only
β Use 20wt Gold on both sides for non-GRIP Fox forks
β Add 3 ml of oil into the positive air chamber of the air piston
Pro Tips
- Re-soak foam rings (under the wipers) in lower-leg oil, theyβre probably dry
- Grease the lower-leg bushings and inside the dust wipers!
- Pull the damper shaft fully out before reinstalling the lowers to catch the alignment hole
- Use 10β15 psi before reinstalling the lowers to avoid vacuum
- Remove the wiper springs, slide them onto the stanchions first, then reinstall the springs after
- DONβT FORGET THE SAG RING
- Never strike the damper or air shaft directly, always use our driver tool
- Dispose of used oil at a shop or hazardous waste facility
- Fox 38 sealed NA2 assembly: negative chamber cannot be checked without full teardown
