Fox Forks Lower Leg Service – No Dust Wiper Replacement

50-hour service procedure for Fox forks, without changing the dust wipers. Simple, effective, and cheap, just clean and re-lube your internals and change the oil.

Apply SRAM Butter on the lower leg stanchion bushings, it makes a huge difference on the stick friction!

Fully thread the tool in the damper shaft until it stops!

⚠️ Important Safety Warning:
Always depressurize the air spring before removing your lowers. Air can remain in the negative chamber, fully deflate your sair spring 15-20psi at a time and pull on the lowers to equalize the chambers as you go. Do this before removing the wheel.

 What You Need

 Driver Options

Choose one of the following to tap the shafts safely into the lowers:

Oil Notes:
- GRIP dampers ingest lower leg oil over time : always use 4wt oil on the damper side
- Use 20wt Gold on the air spring side only
- Use 20wt Gold on both lower legs sides for non-GRIP fox forks
- Put 3ml of oil into the positive air chamber of the air piston
Pro Tips:
  • Re-Soak your foam rings (Under the dust wipers) in lower leg oil, they will probably be very dry
  • Grease the lower legs bushings and dust wiper seals generously!
  • Pull the damper shaft to the maximum before putting back the lowers, catch it first and align it into it's hole when sliding back the lowers. Then continue pushing and the air shaft threads should come out.
  • Put 10–15 psi in the air spring before reinstalling lowers to avoid vacuum inside fork
  • Remove the springs on the dust wipers and put them on the stanchions before sliding back the lowers onto them.
  • DON'T FORGET THE SAG RING.
  • Never strike the damper or air shaft directly, always use a driver (rebound side) or wood block (air side but NEVER on the damper side middle needle)
  • Dispose of used oil at a bike shop or hazardous waste center
  • For Fox 38, air shaft is a sealed assembly, no grease check in the negative air chamber possible without full teardown
