DVO Onyx SL Air 38 – Full Lower Leg Service + 200h Air Shaft Rebuild Kit
This service kit is specifically for the new DVO Onyx SL Air 38. It uses a standard air spring without OTT and requires different tools than older DVO forks like the Diamond or Onyx SC.
Don’t forget to grease the inside of the dust wipers and the lower leg bushings before reassembly, it dramatically reduces friction and stanchion wear.
Included in This Kit
- 10 mm Shaft Clamp – for holding the air shaft during rebuild
- 38 mm Dust Wiper Seal Tool
-
10 mm Bullet Tool – for installing the negative sealhead on the sharp-edged shaft
- We haven’t tested a full rebuild on the Onyx 38 ourselves yet.
- DVO sells inexpensive bullet tools but does not confirm sizing.
- Likely uses the 10.0 × 8.0 mm bullet size (not confirmed).
- Our Fox NA2 10 mm bullet (+$8) may also work.
- Recommendation: If possible, get the DVO bullet; ours is a safe fallback.
What You’ll Also Need (Not Included)
- Cassette Tool – for removing the splined top cap
- Metal Picks – for the air piston circlip
- Blue Loctite – for air shaft threads
- Air Pump – to re-pressurize after the rebuild

Special Notes
- No OTT spring: The Onyx 38 uses a standard air spring (some versions may still have OTT, confirm your model).
- Splined Top Cap: Requires a cassette tool like this one.
- Air piston uses a circlip, no threaded sealhead or cartridge body to clamp.
- Add 5–7 cc of oil to the positive chamber during reassembly.

⚠️ Warnings
- Do not overfill the air chamber, excess oil behaves like a volume spacer.
- Use blue Loctite only on air shaft threads.
Disclaimer
This kit does not include cassette tools, circlip pliers, or other standard workshop tools. Instructions are based on DVO’s official Onyx 38 guide and workshop experience. Always verify compatibility before disassembly. See our Terms of Service.
