40mm Fork Stanchion Clamp Tool — For Fox 40 & Bomber 58

This clamp is designed to hold 40 mm stanchion tubes securely in a bench vise during service. Most commonly used with Fox 40 and Marzocchi Bomber 58 forks when working on the damper or air shaft after removing the stanchions from the crown.

Available in two versions at the same price: straight or angled 35°. Both use the same 360° clamping surface and hold identically — the only difference is how the stanchion sits relative to your vise.

Which version should you pick?

Straight: best if you have a big wide vise where you can clamp off to the side and let the stanchion hang past the edge.

Angled 35°: best if you have a small vise, or one with a wide bottom casting that gets in the way of long straight parts. The angle sends the stanchion off to the side so it clears the center of the vise instead of running into it.

Not sure? Look at your vise. If a 40 mm tube standing straight up in the jaws would hit the base or the bench, pick angled.
Why You Need This
  • Double crown forks don’t connect both stanchions through the crown, once removed, the stanchion spins freely.
  • Compression assemblies are often torqued tightly; you cannot remove them by hand.
  • This clamp prevents rotation without scratching or damaging the surface when used properly.
  • Stanchions are long. Whichever version you choose, the goal is the same: get the tube held solid without fighting your vise for room.
How to Use It Properly
  • Clean the stanchion thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol.
  • Wrap a clean layer of paper towel around the shaft.
  • Spray 1–2 times inside the clamp with isopropyl, it increases friction dramatically.
  • Place the clamp fully around the stanchion. Never clamp with partial contact, you need full 360° contact, vertical or slightly diagonal.
  • Clamp in your bench vise gently but firmly. If it slips, stop and re-check cleaning/prep.
  • Angled version: set it in the jaws with the tilt running clear of the vise center before you close it, so you are not repositioning under load.
Important Warning

Even one grain of dirt can scratch your stanchion permanently.
Always clean carefully and inspect the clamping zone before locking it down. I added many warnings on the clamp because I’m genuinely afraid some people won’t read anything and will destroy their fork.

Compatibility
  • Fox 40 (all generations)
  • Marzocchi Bomber 58

Fitment is identical on both the straight and angled versions — same 40 mm bore, same forks.

If you're not sure what clamp size you need for another fork like an EXT VAIA or Cane Creek Helm MkII, use our Dust Wiper Seal Finder Tool . It uses the exact same diameter reference.
