31.6 mm Dropper Post Shaft Clamp Tool

Designed specifically for 31.6 mm diameter dropper post shafts. This clamp allows you to securely hold the post tube in a bench vise during cartridge or head service without damaging the anodized surface.

Why You Need This

  • Dropper shafts are thin-walled and spin freely once removed from the frame without a proper clamp, they’re difficult to service.
  • Cartridge and head assemblies are often torqued tight; you need a stable, even grip to loosen them safely.
  • This clamp provides full 360Β° surface contact when used correctly, minimizing risk of scratches or deformation.

How to Use It Properly

  • Clean the shaft thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol. Do not leave behind grease, dust, or residue.
  • Wrap one clean sheet of paper towel around the shaft.
  • Spray 1–2 times inside the clamp with isopropyl alcohol. It greatly increases grip when closing the vise.
  • Seat the clamp fully around the shaft. Do not clamp partially across the tube ensure full circumferential contact, vertical or slightly diagonal.
  • Close the bench vise gently but firmly. If it slips, stop and re-check your cleaning and setup.
  • For large diameter shafts like 31.6 mm, review our Clamping Guide to understand best practices and pressure limits.
Warning: Even a single grain of dirt or uneven clamping can cause permanent scratches or dents. Never clamp over the collar, actuator zone, or cable entry. Always clean and inspect before locking it down.

Compatibility

  • Most 31.6 mm round dropper posts, including Fox Transfer, RockShox Reverb, OneUp V2, PNW Rainier/Loam, BikeYoke Revive, KS Lev, and others.

Tip: Always confirm the post’s laser-etched diameter marking (31.6 mm) before clamping. Frame seat tube size does not always match the post size.

Disclaimer: This tool is intended for experienced home mechanics or professional technicians. Improper use such as clamping without cleaning, using uneven pressure, or placing the clamp on unsupported areas can cause cosmetic or structural damage.
